Riley's Infectious Disease Specialists have an inpatient pediatric infectious disease program to treat children with severe, acute and often life-threatening illnesses that are infectious in origin or are suspected of being inflammatory. Riley's Infectious Disease Specialists have vast experience treating cases from the common to the unusual and from the moderate to the severe.
- HIV/AIDS Care: Home of The Ryan White Center for Infectious Disease, Riley is at the forefront of pediatric HIV and AIDS treatment and specializes in the management of the disease in children, including those with acute infectious complications associated with HIV or AIDS. Ninety percent of Indiana children afflicted with HIV or AIDS are treated and cared for in this cutting-edge program, which provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
- International Adoption Clinic: Children adopted from other countries often face unique health problems related to their geographic origins and pre-adoption living conditions. Riley's International Adoption Clinic is the only one in the state, and offers evaluation and care for children born overseas. Referrals can be made during the adoption planning process to help educate families about what medical issues they may face. Upon return to the states, the clinic also provides a medical evaluation with emphasis on issues related to infections, immunization, nutrition, birth defects and psychological development.
- Travel Medicine Clinic: When children or families travel outside of the United States, they are at risk for conditions that may be unfamiliar to most practitioners in the United States. The most common of these include malaria, hepatitis A, typhoid fever, yellow fever, tuberculosis and a variety of parasitic infections. Riley's Travel Medicine Clinic, staffed by physicians board certified in tropical medicine, provides information about how to avoid these diseases, how to use preventive medications and, when necessary, to receive specialized vaccines and medications.
