What: Patiently Doctoring
When: Friday, January 5, 2007, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Where: The Harrison Center for the Arts, 1505 North Delaware Street
Who: Local musician Liz Janes will perform at the exhibit's debut featuring songs she wrote while at her son's bedside. Janes is the mother of a six-month-old son who recently had successful heart surgery at Riley.
Details: Through a grant from Johnson & Johnson and the Society for Art in Healthcare, Riley patients created art about their hospital experience. The art will be used in the education of future physicians, nurses and staff at Riley and Indiana University School of Medicine. Based on the narratives, the exhibit lists the "Top 10 Ways to be a Doctor for Children." Coordinators for the event selected the Riley program because of the innovative way it showcases the thoughts and feelings of pediatric patients, and its ability to help educate future physicians and caregivers.
Riley Hospital for Children is at the national forefront for the inventive use of art to educate caregivers, and to engage patients and families in the care delivery process.
