Riley Documentary Heart to Heart Featured on ABC's Nightline
10/04/2007
I am proud to announce that on Thursday October 4th at 11:30 p.m., Riley Hospital for Children will be featured on ABC's Nightline as the program airs portions of the documentary Heart to Heart. This will bring well-deserved national exposure to Riley, and specifically singles out the phenomenal work performed by the physicians, nurses and staff of the Riley Heart Center.
Heart to Heart focuses on 12-year-old Bailey Hunsberger's battle against heart failure and how Dr. Mark Turrentine, cardiothoracic surgeon at Riley, and his colleagues used innovation and technology only available outside of the U.S. to help her.
The documentary illustrates the clinical strengths of Riley, as well as the emotional side of pediatric care, as it reveals the courage and bravery that Bailey and each of the young patients at Riley exhibit each day.
Heart to Heart has received local and national acclaim and was produced by IMS Productions led by Brian Gordon, Mark Condron, and the late Buddy McAtee.
A great deal of the credit for this opportunity for national exposure goes to our very own Dr. Elaine Cox, who has supported this project with her heart and soul.
Heart to Heart shines a light on some of Indiana's greatest treasures - the dedicated and devoted surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Riley. Additionally, this documentary draws attention to the fact that children's hospitals need more funding for research and innovation so that we can continue to provide high quality care and the latest treatments.
I am very proud of this documentary and the work that is performed at Riley each day. I hope you are able to tune in to ABC on Thursday evening to see this inspirational and moving tale.
