Girl Power! Art on display at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis
11/01/2009
INDIANAPOLIS - Imagine 500 girls, ages 7-14, all working together to create a community art project in one day and that's what you will see when you view the Girl Power! Community Art Project now on display at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis from October 17 to November 13.
The Community Art Project is the result of last year's Girl Power! event which was attended by 1,100 girls, parents, teachers, and youth leaders. At the event, 500 girls had the opportunity to decorate their own individual foam core square that was then added to three 4' x 4' panels to showcase the cumulative creative effort.
The Girl Power! Community Art Display will also be on display at this year's Girl Power! event scheduled for Saturday, November 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds' Agricultural/Horticultural Building.
"This art display makes a breathtaking statement about the power of girls working together to build something bigger than themselves," says Dr. Michele Saysana, who directs Riley Hospital's Pediatric Hospitalist Program. "Participation in a community art project like this can serve as a long-lasting lesson about life."
Riley Hospital for Children partnered with Clarian Health to present Girl Power! 2008 and is partnering with the hospital system again to present Girl Power! 2009.
