INDIANAPOLIS - Riley Hospital for Children was represented at the Target Free Familiy Night First Thursday at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis on November 5, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Riley Community Education and Child Advocacy Outreach Educators Sandy Loper and Megan Fager distributed 50 free gun locks provided to the Riley Safety Store courtesy of the Marion County Sheriff's Department along with gun lock education brochures from the Indiana Partnership to Prevent Violent Injury and Death (IPPVID) and challenged Museum visitors to practice jumping rope and to learn more about the Jump Kids Jump Movement led by Clarian Health.

In addition, Riley Hospital's Child Passenger Safety Nurses, Tonya Whitaker, RN, CPST, and Connie Parks, RN, CPST, also staffed a display where they demonstrated proper fitting and installation of car safety seats and shared information on proper use of car seats and booster seats and about Indiana's child passenger and booster seat laws. Says Karen Bruner Stroup, PhD, Director of Riley Community Education and Child Advocacy, "We are ever dedicated to being present at the Target Free Family nights at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis as this venue provides an opportunity for us to reach out to an audience of about 4,000 people monthly and to provide high exposure to our education programs and resources."
