Agencies collaborate to announce pediatric HIV prevention campaign

INDIANAPOLIS – Please join Riley Hospital for Children, the Indiana State Department of Health and others as they announce "One Test Two Lives – Prevent HIV Indiana" - a statewide campaign designed to reduce the mother-to-baby HIV transmission rate, which has increased 400 percent compared to the past 2 ½ years, by improving clinical practices.

WHAT: "One Test, Two Lives – Prevent HIV Indiana" campaign launch with the Riley Hospital for Children Ryan White Center for Pediatric Disease, the Indiana State Department of Health, the Indiana Perinatal Network and the Midwest AIDS Training + Education Center.

WHY: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, perinatal transmission accounts for 90 percent of all AIDS cases among children in the United States. The goal of "One Test, Two Lives – Prevent HIV Indiana" is to prevent HIV transmission from mother to baby by providing quick and easy access to a variety of resources for obstetricians, nurse-midwives and other providers to ensure all women are tested for HIV early in the pregnancy.
