Radiology
Riley's Radiology Specialists have all completed two-year fellowships in pediatric radiology or are board certified, and have achieved a certificate of advanced qualification. In addition to the physicians, all of the department's personnel, including radiology technologists and nurses, are dedicated to the care of children.
- Neuroradiology and Interventional Radiology: The staff of pediatric radiologists includes the only dedicated pediatric neuroradiologist, pediatric interventional radiologist and pediatric nuclear medicine physicians in Indiana.
- Pediatric-specific Equipment: All equipment used is specially calibrated for treating children and includes MRI scanners, ultrasound machines, dedicated pediatric CT scanners (one of which is a 16-slice CT scanner) and fluoroscopic equipment which enables physicians to reduce the dose of radiation to the patient by up to 70 percent. A state-of-the-art scanner, workstation and specially trained technologists enable the pediatric radiologists to take CT data and look at them in different planes, or make three-dimensional images of structures such as the trachea or aorta.
- Sedation Services: The Pediatric Radiology staff includes specially trained pediatric nurses who focus on the sedation and recovery of babies and children. Behavioral strategies and sleep deprivation techniques are used to help children hold still long enough to finish imaging, but if sedation is needed, pediatric anesthesiologists at Riley are experts at using general anesthesia when required.
