Developmental Pediatrics
As the largest developmental pediatrics program in the country, Riley's Developmental Specialists provide evaluation and treatment for children who have or are at risk for developmental and feeding problems due to birth defects or other disabling conditions. Riley's Developmental Specialists team of pediatricians, including several who are board certified or board eligible in neuro-developmental or developmental behavioral pediatrics, are experts in the growth and development of children. They work together with many other pediatric specialists to provide assessment and care for children with developmental problems.
- Feeding Team: As the first feeding team established in the state, Riley Children's Specialists experts look at all aspects of nutrition and feeding in children who have or are at risk for developmental or behavioral problems affecting feeding and growth. An individualized program is created for each child by a team including a developmental pediatrician, child psychiatrist or child psychologist, occupational therapist, social worker, speech pathologist and pediatric dietitian.
- Newborn Follow-Up Program: Riley Children's Specialists provides continuing care for babies who have been patients in newborn intensive care units. The program targets infants who are at risk for continuing problems with growth and development, providing services for families and primary care physicians.
- Behavioral Clinic: Riley Children's Specialists physicians help patients and families deal with the challenging behavioral issues that may occur in some children with developmental disabilities, including children with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome and Fragile X. Investigation may identify treatable underlying conditions which contribute to problem behaviors, including organic sleep disorders, dysphagia, seizures or communication disorders. Interventions may include specific behavior management techniques, ongoing behavior therapy and pharmacologic treatment, and/or educational program recommendations.
- Developmental Pediatrics Clinic: This clinic provides services for children referred for diagnosis or evaluation and management of a developmental, physical and behavioral problem. Patients may be referred by primary care physicians, clinics, hospitals or other Riley physicians.
