There are three parts to our mission in the Department of Urology at Indiana University School of Medicine:

• We strive to provide the finest medical care available for the treatment of urologic diseases.
• We strive to develop innovative approaches to the care of urologic patients and to contribute to our understanding of urologic diseases through clinical and laboratory research.
• We provide this care in an environment which fosters the development of physician and medical student education.

Why a Pediatric Urologist?

Children are different. A child's urinary tract (kidneys, ureters and bladder) and genitalia are different than those of the adult's and the medical and surgical management of problems in these areas requires a different approach on the part of the treating physician. The Pediatric Urologists at the Riley Children's Hospital are board certified urologists who have chosen to further subspecialize in the area of children. Each has completed additional training ( a fellowship) in pediatric urologic surgery at one of the nation's premier children's hospitals to further that expertise. Managing a diversity of problems ranging from complex genital and urinary tract disorders to socially debilitating voiding abnormalities requires the technical skills of a microsurgeon and the reassuring touch of a friend and confidant. The goals of the pediatric urologists at Riley are to provide the family with not only a diagnosis but an understanding of their child's problem and, if need be, to surgically correct those problems with the skill and care necessary to obtain excellent results. Remember, children are different.
